Our Enegmatic Lolita

Lolita's Corner: ;^)
Welcome to Lolita's Corner! You many know me as Lolita, Lola, Jane, or Patti. If you can't remember the name, you certainly can't forget the face. ;^)

Over the course of the next few months I'd like to share some of my ideas and feelings about Diablo, and mutiplayer gaming with you. At the bottom of this page you'll find a link to post your thoughts regarding my ideas. I'd like to know what you think! Your posts will be automatically updated to a bulletin board. Speak up and let your feelings be known, my fellow EoD members!

Lolita's Corner: From the Elders Of Diablo [EoD] a guild of strong friendships!

Question: Diablo is getting somewhat monotonous. All I ever seem to do is kill monsters and demons and frequently get Player Killed. There must be something I can do to resurrect the initial excitement I felt when I first got the game

Answer: Yes! Welcome to club boredom! Fortunately there is a simple cure which will restore the initial excitement of the original game. Joining the right guild may be the answer for you!

Question: OK! How can joining a guild restore original excitement and newness to my stagnant game?

Answer: The answer to that question is the reason you clicked on Multiplayer as opposed to Single player in the first place when you first graduated from reading the Diablo instruction manual. You wanted congenial companions to share the excitement and triumph (and occasionally the agony of defeat) of a well-played game! Let's face it -- playing alone is no fun! You can kill all the demons you want, and yet it remains singularly unexciting after the initial thrill of learning how the mechanics of the game work.

Just as in real life, SHARED experiences are the only ones that return a high level of satisfaction. Killing demons alone is little more fun than clicking repeatedly with the left mouse button.

Question: OK, so how can I choose my companions, and be sure they have the same interests I do?

Answer: The simple answer is to join a guild. The right guild assures you of a never-ending supply of player-friendly games.

Question: OK -- how do I choose the "RIGHT" guild?

Answer:This depends on what your objectives are. Large guilds are really a subset of battle-net. They frequently suffer from the same crosscurrent of diverse player objectives and have many of the problems that exist in battle-net itself. They usually don't provide a uniform direction for their players. Smaller guilds have the distinct advantage of a more uniform ambiance and player atmosphere, coupled with a friendlier, closer knit family type of feeling. If you are one of the more mature players who prefers accentuating the ROLE-PLAYING aspects of the game, you may wish to look into The ELDERS, the online gaming guild of choice. Our home base is the Kali-Elders Online server. For those of you who are unfamiliar with Kali it allows you to play Diablo and more than 60 other on-line games from a multitude of existing servers. [at last count well over 200 servers!!]

Question: So what other kinds of activities are available to EoD guild members?

Answer: In addition to the above-mentioned "normal" activities, inter-guild competition as well as intra-guild competition are available. Scheduled games are always available to join - any time of the day! Our membership consists of gamers from around the world.

Treasurer hunting is an exclusive activity, which one of our members first devised. This unique competition is vaguely similar to the orb games seen in descent 2. It combines competition, team play, lightning fast action, requires a good memory for the dungeon layout, and complete trust in your partner.

Question: What do you mean my "mature role playing"?

Answer: This is the single-most-important aspect of any role-playing game.

Given the relative lack of consequences for our actions in a role-playing game, you have the opportunity to "act out" your fantasies through your character. When congenial characters began to interact, your imagination is the only limitation imposed on the game! Posturing of all kinds are permissible (if not always acceptable by the other players) as long as you sick to the characteristics of your chosen character. Players who enjoy entering a game invisibly and killing other helpless players, are really demonstrating immature behavior. Players who use God- mode hacks while Player Killing usually are demonstrating arrested emotional development. These kinds of players are not welcome in adult guilds.

Question: What about dueling?

Answer: Dueling is one area in which EoD excels. If you have attempted to join any open dueling games on battle-net, you will have found that most of them degenerate into a yelling contest as one player attempts to "out-hack" another player. Usually the honest player gets the short end of the stick (or staff as it were) since he / she is the weaker un-hacked player. Also, as a rule, mages are stronger than either rogues for warriors. While there certainly are exceptions to the above, I have personally found that more than 70 percent of the open dueling games that I have entered have wound up degenerating into name calling contests with little real dueling fun to the had by any of the players.

In EoD, players usually agree upon which characters and characteristics will be allowed in a given game. When you know the inventory of an opposing player, the game becomes more of a contest of skill rather than "hacks".

All of the really satisfying dueling games I have been in have been guild games. It is a little like one-design sailing. Everyone uses the same type of sailboat, so the real skill of the sailor (role-player) is the determining factor in who wins.

Question: Tell me more about EoD?

Answer: You can also write to me directly at z4321@gte.net. Please include your name, and your characters names and their classes. Please mention any special interests you have such as dueling etc.

Also let us know if you have ICQ! If not we will send it to you!

I will get back to you shortly!

Stay well and stay safe! Trust your companions!
